Last night Baby came to fetch me after work, and he was in the holiday mood, so he suggested going to the Sun Set Grill & BBQ located within Seletar Air Base at the Republic of Singapore Youth Flying Club. This ulu malu place was recommended by Baby's colleague, saying that this place sells famous buffalo wings and you get to sit just next to the runway while enjoying your meal....
The previous attempt to find this place was unsuccessful, because I guess the direction given by his colleagues wasn't clear enough, so Baby and I ended up touring around seletar camp and exploring eerie and ulu spots for about 2 hours. But this time, I managed to find an article in the straits times featuring some ulu pubs/night spots for dine and wine in Singapore, and they provided detail direction to find this particular ulu pub.
Firstly, the address of this place is 140B Picadilly Road, East Camp. To actually find this place, you have to first drive in to seletar camp, head towards Picadilly Road, then Lembeth Walk, then Hamstead Gardens, then Western Avenue, then turn towards East Camp and just drive all the way in and you will find the previous OLD Youth Flying Club. By then you should be able to see a small pub at one corner with colourful lights....
The previous time we went to search this ulu pub, we went to the NEW Youth Flying Club, which is like at the direct opposite, located at West Camp. We couldn't find a single eating place there, only buildings and buildings of aviation company, and you can even see planes~ We even went all the way to the end till we reached a police guard house, and had no choice but to turn back....
On a whole, if you want to find this ulu place, be prepared to experience a ride that you'll never expect.... with black and white houses built in the colonnial years, to roads and turns so dark, you'll hope your car headlights were fixed with HID bulbs... The food was nice, and I like their Sautee Vegetables that comes with the steak or pork chop. The baffalo wings weren't that terrific, althought that was supposed to be their specialty... we ordered half a dozen, and I only ate one... Baby ate like two and a half and got sick of the taste... A couple beside us were trying their level 5 Baffalo Wings, I think they were like sweating away from the very first bite... Too bad I didn't took much photos because the place was like dimly lighted, and my camera flash seemed very disturbing to the other diners...
Baby said that their level is determined by the number of coats of chilli on the wings. Which means, with every increase of level, the chef dips the wings in chilli and deep fry again. Honestly, if you imagine that, its like how many coats of chilli and oil you are puting into your mouth, especially the higher the level you eat... Its quite disgusting to imagine that, and its extremely unhealthy... Nowander the menu describes the wings as lips burning and tonsil scorching~
The only unpleasant component there was that there were a couple of huge red ants crawling all over the tables and chairs... and it seems like they are the permanant residences there, so don't be shocked if you see red ants crawling over your plates~
